Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 “From the New World” and the Dvořák Cello Concerto with featured soloist.

Program Notes

This program was chosen to center Dvořák's uniquely generous melodic voice and his connection to the idea of America. Listen for the contrast between the symphony's broad, horizon-line themes and the concerto's more intimate, vocal writing for cello.

Mendelssohn's “Reformation” Symphony, Violin Concerto, and Beethoven's Overture to Fidelio.

Program Notes

Mendelssohn's "Reformation" Symphony was written in connection with the 300th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, which gives the concert a strong historical and spiritual center. Listen for the recurring chorale references and for the way Beethoven and Mendelssohn frame heroism differently: one through operatic urgency, the other through luminous lyricism and architectural control.

314:00 PMAn American Celebration

Sunday, May 31, 2026

A patriotic late-season program featuring American voices and a festive orchestral close.

Program Notes

This closing program was chosen to celebrate American sound worlds that feel ceremonial, cinematic, and unmistakably theatrical. Listen for how each composer builds a different kind of grandeur, from Copland's open-air brass writing to Gershwin's jazz-inflected storytelling and Bernstein's restless, dance-driven energy.
